South Africa….

The Lord has been so kind to me in this place. South Africa has been like a drink of cold water after trudging through the desert land. Walking out of Romania I was in a broken and frustrated place with the Lord. I experienced so many encounters with the Lord and the way that he was working in Romania, but I felt anxious. Honestly, I was feeling worn thin by the race, struggles amongst friendships, uncertainty back at home, and the idea of adjusting to a whole new continent ahead of me.

I was not sure what my ministry placement was going to look like when we arrived to Johannesburg, and I truly couldn’t fathom that Africa was in “winter time”. Ha! The Lord really humbled me when I came into Africa’s winter time after dropping all of my winter gear back in Europe. Yes, it’s actually cold here despite all of preconceived notions I had made from American movies about this side of the world. Lion King really didn’t prepare me for a bustling city full of life, kindness, English speakers, and so many believers.

When we entered the gates at our ministry site outside of the city, I was immediately showered in peace and the aroma of flowers. We lived in a beautiful oasis, and as we arrived, I knew the Lord had brought me to this place to rest and be filled up by the team I was with. During my time in South Africa, I was with a team of women who were all older than me. Not only were these women older than me, but they are also so spiritually solid. It was truly a joy serving alongside them, and learning from the wisdom they carried this past month.

Throughout the month, the Lord would continue to give me little sweet things sprinkled about. We made deep friendships with our translators, we worked with kids almost every day (my fav), and we even had a gym in the building we lived in. We worshipped this month, we baked from scratch in a big old kitchen this month, and we even took bubble baths this month. Y’all have no idea how big it is to have a fully functioning kitchen and anything nicer than a sponge bath. In every way that I needed rest and rejuvenation, the Lord went above and beyond to meet me in my brokenness. It was in the little things this month that they Lord showed me he cared for me and that he was enough to sustain me. “I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.” Psalm 3:5

How is the Lord sustaining you in this season? What little blessings is the Lord giving you today?

With love from South Africa,

XOXOX,

Katherine

P.S. I finished reading the Bible all the way through for the first time in my life in South Africa. The Lord is so good.
