Mary’s Song (The Remix ft. Katherine)

January 1st, 2022. I sat at a little cafe on the Adriatic Sea. I peered across the glassy water and asked the Lord what he had for me this year. Some people start the year with a prophetic word, or set goals to gain and lose a few different things, or maybe even eat some black eyed peas. I’ve done it all and to be honest, I’m sure you may have too.  But for some reason, this year felt different. I felt the Holy Spirit tickling my skin by the wind as I sat in the sun and asked my Heavenly Father what he wanted from me for the year of 2022.

He asked me to write a song.

Most of you know that I am not the singer of the family. Naturally, I laughed a little when I heard the Lord whisper to me that he wanted me to write music for him. However, I’ve finally made it to a point in my faith journey where I don’t have to question everything that is asked of me. So,I just obeyed.

This was not just any song though. He wanted me to rewrite Mary’s song from Luke 1.

Mary’s Song:

“And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.  He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”” Luke1:46-55

Katherine’s Song (aka the remix from Mary’s Song)

And Katherine said: “My soul yearns for my Father and my spirit leaps into my God’s loving arms, for he has sought out his delicate child. From now on all around me will call me changed, for the King of Kings has painted a new gallery for me—how thoughtful is his grace. His gentleness extends to those who feel broken, from shattered to cracked. He has displayed goodness with the flutter of his eyes: he has moved those who are ensnared by their worldly ways. He has stripped down leaders from their titles but has raised up those who know He is above all. He has shown the parched eternal pools but has sent the “quenched” away hollow. He has aided his servant Arkansas, remembering to be gracious to Hazel and her descendants forever, just as He promised her he would.”

My prayer is that my Father will take my song of devotion and bless generations to come after me by it. I don’t know what this year or the future has in store for me, but I do know who has written my story and I can tell you the ending sounds pretty darn good.

XOXOX,

Katherine
