In both Guate and Honduras I have had the opportunity to love on little girls simply by painting their nails. Sharing a smile and playing spa for a bit really can brighten a little girls day. Despite the language barrier here I have been able to serve the little ladies of Central America by brushing a rainbow of colors on their nails. I have always loved painting and all things girly—so what better way than to incorporate this into my ministry here.

This past week a few of our teams had the opportunity to go evangelize to a community in the mountains. We ended the day with playing on a soccer field with 50 kids and wild horses. I saw a group of young girls sitting to the side of the field and remembered that I had brought nail polish with me in case an opportunity arose to paint a little girl’s nails. I grabbed my polish and my squad mate, Gwen, and we started painting nails.

While I paint their nails I ask the girls questions about their life and what they like to do. The Lord has prompted my heart to make these girls feel seen and loved. To feel like a little girl in a world where the odds are stacked against them. There’s just something sweet about having a fresh coat on your hands. By painting the girls nails—it opens up the opportunity for them to share a bit about their life and to ask lots of questions about why a grin-got (white girl) would be near their home. Often there is room to present the gospel to these girls and to share with them the beauty that their Heavenly Father sees in them.

Childlike faith— the Lord has pressed these words into my heart the past few weeks. The Lord has shown me on my race again what it’s like to look at the world with fresh eyes. I have been asking and seeking the Lord through the eyes of a child again. Exciting, expecting, yearning to have my questions answered by my Father. “When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never truly enter it.” Mark 10:14-15.

God loves the little children of the world and God loves you.

XOXOX,

Katherine
